Is it ok to use 15-5 38 tires to replace 13-6 38 tires on the same rims on a SMTA?
Thanks
Don

Replaced 14.9 x 38's with 16.9 38 radials. Tires were used but just like new and price was really right. The tractor looks really good but it is just used for show. Has 700 x 16's up front.

We tried that once on a 560 and plowed for only half a day and the tire looked like a mouse had chewed it up. The next day the dealer put 14" rims on it with a new set of 15-38 tires and the problem was solved.

I'd put 15.5 x 38's on 15" wide rims if I were doing it..... .....Got Firestone F+R 15.5's on 15" wide rims on our 400 and they pull like mad with every ounce of rubber on the ground.

put 15.5-38 'stones on the sm's 14.9-38 rims, tires are rounded some but if there's any tire slip or soft dirt it's using the whole tread anyhow.

14.9x38's would look real nice on that Super M-TA.

I have seen it done that way but it is not right. You really need a 14 inch wide rim to mount a 15.5-38.

The 15.5-38” inch tire is made to be put on a 14” wide rim. If it is put on a narrower rim (which you probably have) it will be too “round” and will not afford maximum traction. If you are planning on using the tractor a lot, I would recommend either going back to the 13.6-38” tires or finding a set of 14” rims to mount the 15.5-38" tires possibly from a 460 or 560.

I have a set of 15.5 radials on a SMTA. I bought new rims but had to weld new slipage prevention blocks on them. They could be rivited as were the original blocks on your existing rims.

Forgot to mention that the new rims are 14 x 38.
