Model A engine block I.D.

I have a maodel A serial 202302 I thought It was Suposed to be a C-113 block? The casting number on the block is 366204-r3 and c-123 is also on the block. But a c-123 is from a super c isn't it with a 3 1/8 bore but when I took it apart it had a 3 inch bore with stepped head pistons. Also under the distfibutor there is a spot where something may have bolted in and the previous owner made his own cover and seal to cover it. I'm really scraching my head hear!!!!! !!!!

You have a replacement engine block. That was the standard IH replacement back in the 60's. The block off plate below the distributor is covering the mount for a hydraulic pump as this block was also replacement for Super A/C/Super C... Do you have it apart now? If you are trying to ID sleeves to order there are lengthy discussions on sleeve sizing and ID from previous threads, search on Super A or 100. Comes down to pull a sleeve, measure OD at O-ring seal point and go from there.

Thanks for the info. The new sleeves I have are 3.32 inch at seal point and the old ones are 3.32 also give or take a little dirt and rust. I hade no problem installing them they went in just like the directions said. I guess that would explain why there is a therocoupler in the coolent outlet. Thanks your info was very helpful

Yes, those should fit fine. The two measurements are roughly 3-5/16" or 3-7/16", so the biggest you can use is the 3-1/8" overbore kit in your motor.

Thermocoupler? If you are saying your upper radiator neck off the cyl head has a temp sending unit, OK. If you are running w/o a water pump, then make sure you have the older style C-113 head gasket with the large openings in the water jackets, and you shouldn't have a thermostat. Stan(VA).

Hi James, You can install a sleeve & piston kit in that block and use the 3.125" pistons to have the 123cu-in displacement. I used those when I restored a Farmall A using the original block.

I already had the engine kit with the 3 inch bore before I unearthed the c-123 marking out of all the grease and grime. Its just a big toy for me to play with. Thanks Jim moore

Hi Jim, I was wondering why you used the 3-inch
pistons. These tractors amaze me with all the abuse that most of them had to endure. I don't
think the Farmall A that I restored ever had the oil changed. As sludged up as the oil pump screen
was, I often wondered how the engine ever had any oil circulating through the engine.

The crankshaft was only .002" undersize
on the mains and rods. The shaft wasn't scored,
but it was a bronze looking color. The machine
shop got me .002 under bearings from Federal Mogul. I bought new valves, guides and springs
and had them to do the head too. I got the sleeve kit from an IHC dealer. I had it running
by spring and I plowed my garden with the plow
that came with it.

After I finished the tractor I took pictures and stopped by to show the pictures to the woman that had owned the tractor, she said her
dad had bought the tractor new and would be happy
if he had known the tractor was again running. He had died earlier. It pulled the plow like it wasn't even on there. Only turning 1540rpm's it
should last a long time. Good luck with yours, Hal
