I am not a big red fan but my uncle is, I go for the other half of the partnership.
Anyway my uncle was mowing with his B, I think a couple of years ago, it was run fine when he finished. He was going to mow a few days later and it would not start.
He has replace mag, points and condenser, and rebuild the carburetor. The plug will all fire when removed from the cylinder. He thinks the timing has jumped but cannot find the timing marks.

Just been there....see my post from a few days ago. It's unlikely the camshaft is out of position from crank, but if you remove the governor, the drive gear for the governor (front) and magneto (back) comes right out. I said "hey that's cool", then realized oops! now I got to figure out how to time it.

There are two sets of dots on the cam shaft 180 degrees apart. The single dot on the canshft gear needs to match up with the single dot on the crankshaft. If this is done, the opposite two dot mark will be in a position where the governor gears two dot marking can match it. Kind of a slick and simple set up. Of course on a B (or an A) taking off the front end to get behind that cover is a problem. No big deal. Just take off the governor (5 bolts) and then watch very carefully as you turn the crank (take out the sparkplugs and use a hand crank) until you see the two very faint dots. Make sure you see two. Then look closely at your governor drive gear for the two dots and slip them together. Done!

Put it all back together, and you are "timed". Now that assumes your crank and cam have never become misaligned, but that's a pretty good assumption unless grandpa really tore into her. At this point, you can still put the magneto on wrong, but if you bring it up to TDC on the compression stroke, and then pup off the mag cap and point the rotor to no 1, you'll see how it goes together.

Geo, what you have to do is loosen the mag, push it up against the engine. Remove #1 plug, crank by hand until compression pushes thumb out of #1 plug hole. Now if you remove inspection plate, timing mark should be visible. Continue to crank engine until timing mark is lined up with the pointer. When this is done, slowly pull mag away from engine until you hear a snapping sound. Tighten mag, engine is now timed

If he has removed the mag, it may be together 180 degrees... when compression pushes thumb out of hole, make sure the rotor is pointed at number one plug on the distributor, then continue what I wrote earlier.
