I have a couple of Fords, a 9N and 881D. I know a little about Fords but nothing about Internationals. I've gotten frustrated looking for a FEL to put on one of my Fords. While searching I found a guy who has an old International with a loader on it. 4 cylinder gas. He does not know the model or year. He has told me it does not have a 3 point and he doesn't think it has a PTO.
That's ok with me since all I need is something to move dirt, debris, and do some landscaping. What he does know: He was using it last year and something "moved" in the front end causing the pump shaft to turn red hot and break. The motor still runs fine so he parked it figuring to get time to fix it later. Now a year later he just wants to sell it. He says it is a good size tractor with a healthy loader (except for the pump) with power up, down, and dump. It has a 55 gal drum filled with concrete on the back as a counterweight. He's asking $1000.00 for it.
I'm going to look at it this week. I welcome and appreciate all advice, considerations, cautions, and recomendations with what to look for and what to watch out for when I go look. How can I identify it? I only know the basics on things to check out. Water in oil or oil in radiator, leaks, and general condition. I'll post more after I've looked at it. With this limited information does it sound like a good deal? Possibly how much to repair or replace the pump?
Again all input is appreciated. Thanks, Eric

It's strange that he doesn't know the model or year of the tractor. I would be leary of that. One thing that I think is important on a loader tractor is power steering. It seems that power steering became common around 1960 or so. Another important thing for a loader tractor is to have a lot of weight. Weight generally comes with horsepower. Look for 60 hp or more.

Thanks Ken, The tractor does have power steering. Where on the tractor do I need to look for S/N or other identifier? He said the sheet metal is real rough and one side of the hood is missing so I can't count on any decals being legible. Eric

There would have been a plate with the model and serial number, maybe 2x3 inch, riveted on somewhere. First place to look is the clutch housing. Sometimes on the side of the box under the seat, various places. No 3-point, hyd. pump on the front, makes it sound like an industrial model, and "relatively" recent. Good luck, Wm
