What is the proper way to measure a Farmall's plow size (for example, I know there 2x12, 2x14 and 2x16). From what to what do you measure? Thanks Ramon

Ramon: To properly measure a plow that is multi bottom, you should really measure landside to landside on paralell. Some plows have offset beams. IH plows you can measure center to center on plow beams, right on top.

Single bottom plows are a bit more difficult. I could pick a 12" from 16", but I wouldn't want to bet much money on picking a 2" differential. With the single bottom part number of frog or moldboard will give it to you.

The angle of the frog is different on each of 12, 14, 16 and 18 inch bottoms. Each will have a different part number. The moldboards are different as well thus dfferent part numbers. I have some info on this, not sure it covers your plow.

Hi Ramon, Measure directly from the landslide to the trailing edge of your plow point. Your 14 inch plow should measure somewhere near this if the plow point isn't worn a lot. The same for your 16 inch plow. Hal

Hi Ramon, I measured my 10-inch plow on my garden tractor and it measures 10-inches from the backside of the landslide to to trailing edge of the plow point. It may be a little less if you have some wear. It should be close though. Hal

I don't think we've gotten to the answer that Ramon is looking for yet. Lets say I have a 1-bottom plow...where do I measure to and from in order to tell if it's a 14" or 16"??

I think I know..but not 100%. Chas

I live in Durham, NC. So I think I understand "beam to beam" but I have heard references to a 1x 16 inch plow. How can you measure 16 inches beam to beam if there is only one plow (for example)? Thanks for the help, Ramon

Measure across the beams that the plow bottoms are fastened to, from the outside of one beam to the inside of the other beam, or center to center.

Measure from landside to landside, and you will know the width of the plow. The first number you referred to would be the number of bottoms.
