I just found a "Super A" with the date code 5-10-47 on the transmission. Not a "Q" but the number 47. It is where most of the ones on "A"s are found. I know Guy Fay's book mentions this but he refers to older tractors. I have looked at hundreds of these tractor's and have never seen one like this. Is this a real oddity or what?

I have a 1936 F-20 block with the '36' cast in. No letters...

I have seen several Farmalls with the number 47 instead of the letter Q. I like cowmans theory on this one.

IH could have been reluctant to use Q as it might have been interpreted to mean "Queer".

In the truck line, IH skipped K-9 in the K-1 thru K-14 series for obvious reasons.

My M is marked that way on the transmission cover, and, yes it is a 1947 too. Maybe the foundry guys lost the letter stamp that year.
