Dad had the same problem with his '47 MV on a tractor cruise last weekend. Some old boy went home and brought an old mag he had around, they tested it, and put it on. The tractor ran better than it ever has. Before he checked the mag, he thought the plugs were fouled, so that could also be a problem.

My vote would be for the coil, but I would check fuel flow first a floater in gas tank can do the same thing. Eliminate things that don't cost money first.

I had the same problem and it was the coil. If it is not a fuel supply problem. It is more likely to be the coil.

This may seem out there but have you checked the fuel line to include the bowl. I once had that type of problem and come to find out when the engine ran it ran good. It of course emtpied the carb of gas and then quit. When it sat for a bit the gas slowly filled up the carb again and off I went!

Thanks. My son previously guessed the coil, and the fuel line seems to be clear -- the bowl stays full. So we will give the coil a shot this weekend. The M has a distributor not a magneto. Thanks again, the advice on this site has always been of great interest.

I had the same problem with the H this last week. I checked the tank pulled out a 1955 coil wire looked like a giant night crawler and blew from the carb fuel line troward the tank .It Ran for about 30 mins today with out quiting. But any way do you have a mag or distributor?
