Did the Farmall series 300,350,400,450 steering wheels always indicate wheather power steering was installed or not? I've seen non power steering ones with the H or M style wheel secured by a nut and of course PS with the large plastic center. But did they ever put that big plastic center on a tractor without PS? Thnaks for your insight, Dick Davis

IH used an aluminum washer under the nut that had "Power Steering" printed on it. The washer was about 1.5" in diameter. I have one on a 650. It is likely that the same washer was used on the 400. A parts book would confirm that. It would be nice if someone would reproduce it.

Thanks for the reply. Warder are you saying that some PS was denoted by just that washer under the nut and not the bigger plastic center? Have you seen the washer on other than 650's? Dick Davis

I checked the parts book. The washer is listed for the 400 only. The large center steering wheel is listed for the 450. The washer is Ref # 54 in the drawing and is part number 344 215 R1. There are a number of additional differences in the steering shaft as well. The support has three different part #s. Two of those go with the 450. The later one superceeds an earlier support at tractor 13135. The monogramed cap for the 450 is listed with and w/o PS; they are two separate part #s. I don't have 300 or 350 parts book. Not even sure if the Behlen will fit under a 300-50 hood.

I believe the large centers were only on the 350 and 450 while the old style steering wheel was used on the 400 and 300.
