I converted my SH. I used a 90's model toyota nippon denso alt. It is small internally regulated I used the stock farmall generator bracket turned backwards and a tensioner bracket of a car. The original farmall belt fit. also the toyota truck has a single groove pulley.

General Motors (Chevy, etc.) alternators work great for old Farmalls. You could also have the generator converted to 12 volt. We have done both and not had any problems.

Fit isn't a problem for the M, for an H it is very tight.

awhile back someone posted a picture of a Delco installation. I still have it, and with all thanks to that person, I will send it along as an attachment if I have your email address.

A Delco will squeeze under there, but you'll need to devise a way to tighten the belt. Altho' I'm using one by just buying the right length belt, and having no other adjustment. I turned the generator bracket upside down and put in a long bolt for the alternator to sit on. Over on the left of this page under the Articles heading is some good information on 12 volt conversion. Some people have used a slightly smaller alternator such as made by Hitachi. I got one from NAPA, and the part #was 213-8130. Costs more than the Delco....$82. since I didn't have a core to return.
