When I brought my "A" six months ago the owner said the engin was rebuilt a few years ago.It starts and runs good plenty of power, but at start up and only at start up it blows a clowd of blue smoke. I never have to add oil.Whats going on, is this just the nature of the beast, or something I should worry about. Thanks to all of ya. j

I've got a Super A that smokes pretty blue smoke until it gets warm. Tells me that the valves are getting plenty of oil on the stems at start up. Or something. Probably something good.

But I don't worry about it.

My A does the same thing on start up. Doesn't use any oil and runs great. I guess I'll just live with it till it needs a overhaul

If the smoke was black, it would be easily understandable as too much gas (choke) on startup. If it's blue, my guess is oil seeping past the valve guides when it sits for awhile. I'm guessing that if you shut her down, and restart in 5 or ten minutes, there ain't much smoke. I could be wrong, but if she runs good, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If your plugs start fouling fairly often, pull the head and get the valves redone. You can also do a compression test to make sure rings are good, but it really sounds like valve guides to me.
