Hello,
I have a early '39 M and I heard something about them being more rare than other M's because of a different casting somewhere (transmission???). I would like to know more about this difference and how to know if mine has this "different" casting.

thanks,
Russ

The casting difference is in the top of the transmission cover. It has an indentation that runs through the middle. The seat mounting rail sets in the depression. The 39 also had the small distillate version engine 247ci or something. It should have distillate manifold, an extra little gasoline tank, a magneito, shutters, shutter controls, etc. They are probably worth a little more, but it is like with everything else, you need to find a buyer taht really wants one.
