Hydraulics on a 240 Utility

What would cause the three point to burp? (go up and own about 3 inches) I have purged my system, and refilled with new fluid, but the hydraulics on the 3-point do a funny little dance. It raises and lowers just great, but when I set the lever to the center, it raises a little, then drops a little, and continues to do this the entire time. Could this be caused by air still being or getting into the system? I'm at a loss on this one, any help would be appreciated.

Jerry: Assuming a 240 Utility's hitch is similar to a 460's, it sure sounds like the feedback linkage from the hitch lift cylinder to the Tel-A-Depth control is not adjusted properly.

A manual will give you fairly complete instructions on how to perform the adjustment. Basically it consists of raising the hitch to a certain height and adjusting the linkage in or out to obtain the sweet spot where the hitch doesn't hunt up and down. This process is repeated with the hitch in a lowered position.

You've had some ongoing problems with the 240's system, and it appears you have made some progress. Would you give us some feedback on resolving some of the problems?

I'm not sure how the hoses are plumbed with the 3-point but if it is like most hydraulic cylinders you have a fairly long set of hoses compared to the volume of the cylinder itself. You can have an air bubble somewhere in the system between the control valve and the cylinder. If the volume of the cylinder isn't large enough to completely purge the hoses then you won't get the air bubble out. Ususally this goes away by cycling the cylinder several times through full travel. Another opion would be to fill up both sides of the piston in the cylinder along with the hoses before you connect them to the tractor.

Other than that you will need to get a response from somebody that has had the hydraulic system apart that might be able to tell you if there is something internal that could be causing this.
