I have a 1945 H I was cleaning the crankcase breather I removed the pushrod cover as part of the disassembly and noticed a lot of engine deposits the tractor has ran on nondetergent oil is there any way to clean this without overhauling the engine or is it better to just leave it alone.

I dont know how bad your tractor is but I bought berrymans B12 chemtool from the auto parts of walmartand used it in the crank case of my H as it says on the can. When I disacembled the motor for rebuilding a few months later she was as clean as a whistle in side.

Unless you are elastic man, its going to be quite difficult to clean out that chamber properly without pulling the rocker arm assembly to pull the push rods and dropping the oil pan. Flush it out through the bottom with kerosene after you get the cam followers removed. They will no doubt be pretty stubborn if there is a lot of gunk in their holes. Make sure you wipe off the cam after you clean everything up before reinserting the followers and push rods. I would also recommend you cover the crank up with heavy plastic sheeting to deflect the kero and sludge, you don't need to have a small piece of debris get caught in a rod or main cap and score a bearing.
