Question for Haas

Haas - I know it would be better to send you an email and not bother all the people that read this, but the system doesn't show your email now.

In my post about pulling my 450 diesel, you said to "check the manifold butterflys to make sure they are sending air to the carb as they should and also that the carb float is releasing. The float is locked up in diesel mode to shut off gas flow." How do I check the manifold butterflys to make sure they are sending air to the carb as they should? Do you take the carb apart to see if the carb float is releasing?

At Red Power in Penfield, many of the "regulars" on this chat format met one morning. Are there plans to do so at Mt Pleasant?

Thanks for your answer. DH

Dale - Here's a thought on the manifold butterfly: You may be able to check butterfly operation by removing the ignition switch cover on the front end of the manifold. Inside there's a cam on the end of the butterfly shaft that works the switch. Check to see the cam rotates 90 deg when the decompression lever is stroked. If it does not the starting linkage needs attention!

I quit posting my E mail on here (and anyplace else) unless absolutely essential. The spammers are flooding me anyway, but I don't want to help them anymore. Bob M is correct on the gas flow question. I'm in the same shape as Bob also on the manifold butterflys. Mine works so I've not checked. I do know they work off a cross shaft (as does the carb float lock and the ignitions switch) that goes from the left to right side of the head and works those things. Its behind the carburetor, so not easy to see all the linkages or get to them. I think you might have to take the manifold off to check them.

On the carburetor, if you open or remove the bowl drain fitting, the carb should discharge a stream gas out the drain with the decompression lever in the "start" position. (Flow should stop in the "run" position...)

Can't help with the manifold butterfly question - never had to go inside one!

Wish I was going to Mt Pleasant this year. I visited Bloomsburg last year - it was GREAT!

Thanks to Haas and Bob M. I'll think of you when I'm enjoying seeing the tractors next week at Red Power. Dale
