Just got a SMTA gas and know nothing about them Never been around one before. It has PS, live PTO, and a M&W hydrolic pump. How do I check the hydrolic oil? Does it take a special kind? Also what should the valve lash be? Sorry for so many questions, but I dont have any manuals yet and want to play with it! Any one have photos? I think some things have been changed on mine. I will get photos of it tomorrow. Maybe someone can tell me what I have.

Thanks!
Keith

Mine isn't as pretty as the one in the picture below. Check hydraulic oil via the filler plug on the left side of the liftall box, under the rear of the gas tank. Problem is trying to get oil in there without it bubbling back and splashing all over. From advice here I changed hydraulic and transmission, TA over to hytran equivelent when I overhauled TA. I think the book calls for gear oil in transmission and TA. These seemed to be sort of a transition between the Super M and the number series. A lot have bad TAs as mine did when I bought it. TA is really a nice feature. The power steering is after market.

Can't help ya much on anything else, but heres a picture of mine. As for hydraulic fluid, use HYTRAN from your local CaseIH dealer. I just filled it up as far as it'd go in the pipe and let it be. Are you sure its an M&W pump, all SMTAs had live hydraulics. Mike

All the M&W pumps I've seen the hoses come out the top. IH they come out the bottom.

I took photos of it today with my digital camera. Yes it is an M&W with the hoses on top. Also has a ID tag on the pump. I'll post some photos if I can figure out how to.

Thanks,
Keith
