Here I go again with my cryin', whinnin', and complainin'.

Went out and cut a few acres of this burnt up hailed out, bleached out grass.

This darned 310!!.....Smokes like a freight train until it either warms up or gets a load throwed to it then the exhaust cleans up clear as can be.

Been around IH diesels all my life and have never seen one do this nor do I think that I will ever get used to it.....

Okay, okay. I'll shut up and go set down.

Allan

You didn't say what tractor the engine is in. If it ia a 686 IHC had a voluntary recall to put in different pistons to help cure this problem

The 4020 JDs were notorious for that, but I am like you, never seen it that bad on an IH.

Hi Rusty,

It won't do it again today because it has already been run and is still warm. But tomorrow morning, I'm gonna start the old sow up when it is cold, take a picture and see what you guys think.

It's drivin' me nuts but everyone around here says it is completly normal. Just dunno

Allen, this tractor is taking its good sweet time getting to optimum operating temperature.

My neighbors ask me to start the B414 in the evening to kill the mosquitos in their yard. Well, I made that part up, but that old girl smokes like a broke stove for 10 minutes in the cold, 5 on a hot day. I have had that old bird out mowing for 30 or 40 minutes before it starts running in the zone, clicking along like it can go all day, happy as a clam. I do love the sound of a fine running motor.

I have to service the air cleaner about every 10 hours by taking it off the tractor and soaking the whole thing in diesel. If I don't, it will restrict the air some and I get a bit of smoke, just barely noticable and it will lug down faster than normal. Don't worry about it if it is running good. UFO Man

UFO,

Boy! I hear ya there! It just about melts my old flea-bitten heart to listen to this thing pull. And it pulls like a Percheon.

When I was farming, I always traded the things off when they were around 3000 hours or so and just have never seen one smoke for any longer than about 10-15 seconds when first started, especially the high pressure injected ones. I dunno, I guess maybe I'm just spoiled.

I'm gonna put up a picture of this thing when it is cold tomorrow morning. Tell me what you think.

To me, it just looks like an old worn out diesel until it warms up. Hmmm, (which it just might be). :>)

Thanks,

Allan
