Has anyone ever seen an old Farmall running on Kero? Do they smoke a lot? I would think that they would.

I have successfully run my 'H' on jet fuel. When properly warmed up it doesn't smoke and apart from a slight drop in power it runs much the same as on gas. People used to turn their heads when they smelt kerosene exhaust. I don't know what octane rating jet fuel kerosene is but it appears to have had no adverse effects on the engine.
I was lucky that the heat control valve on the manifold was already in the mid position, generally they are seized solid in the cool position for operation on gas. However, it is a bit of a pain having to adjust the shutters to keep the needle on the temperature gauge at the top end of the green segment, which is what the instruction manual advises. The fuel had been contaminated by water and was condemned for aircraft use but with the water separated from it there was nothing wrong with it for burning in the tractor. Unfortunately, it has all gone and I am back to using gas.

As everyone knows an old mans memory is not too good sometimes but I drove a lot of distillate tractors when they were new and do not remember them smoking or running any differently if properly warmed up before switching. As I remember the drill we would run at least 30 minutes before switching. About 1950 distribitors in our area started selling so called "hot fuel" and you did not have to warm up on gasoline with this fuel.

Yep,sure do.I dont notice the smoke as much when it gets good and hot,but it does smoke pretty good when the enigne is in that in between period.I dont do it much, just when the occasional cocky no it all says it cant be done and when I get in the mood for the smell.Engine sounds different too, kinda clug, clug, cluggy!
