Hi Jeff, Find a machine shop where the machinist's are ASE certified. They have an
industry standard for the amount that can be machined from a head. You do not want too much
milled off and raise the compression ratio on the engine. Good Luck, Hal

WELL I NEVER; I CANNOT THINK OF ANY MACHINIST THAT WOULD REMOVE 0.500 INCHES (500 THOUSANDTHS) FROM ANY HEAD. MUST BE BARKIN' UP THE WRONG TREE!
MAYBE YOU COULD GET THE MACHINIST TO PUT IN A COMMENT ON THIS LOST CAUSE. CAN'T BE REAL.

We took a half an inch off of ours. We have had no problems over the last 6 years. It sure perked it up though.

A full half inch? Not to be nitpicking or anything, but a half inch is 0.500". I have heard of taking off 0.100" maybe even 0.125" which is 1/8 of an inch, but a full half inch?

I have to agree. Only crankshaft I EVER heard of breaking in an M was in an engine that had the head planed .125", 1/8" instead of the .020"-.030" that was requested. Old M pulled pretty good for a little while.
