Last week I stopped to look at old abandoned plantation house that has recently burned and back in fence row spotted strange looking 1 row cotton picker. On closer inspection it turned out to be high drum mounted on standard clearance M. Fans, pipes and doors look like 120A but it is belt driven off of PTO. This has to be field mounted picker as it is on 1944 M. My question is this a rare picker? All 1 row high drums I have ever seen were mounted on high clearance tractors.

Harold,

I'm looking for a one-row cotton picker if you can get me a price and picture. Would like it running but will consider any condition depending on price.

Thank you.

If it wasn't for the pto drive, I would ask; are you sure it was a 20 spindle high high drum? The 414 or 414A look just like the 120 or 120 A except for the 20 vs 14 bars. However the pto drive rules that out. After two rows came out very few one rows were sold in our area. All the high drum one rows I have ever seen drive from a drive box and driveshaft mounted where the tractor belt pulley mounts. Only the fans are belt driven. They also mounted on bullgear equipped tractors (M thru 560). It is oviously one of the newer one row pickers, probably a 502 or 502H. I have never seen one of these and don't know how they are mounted or drive but since they could be mounted on the large frame 06 (706 & 806) tractors which could not mount bull gears, as well as mounting on older (M, 400, 560, etc) tractors, they would fit your description. That would also explain the pto drive as 706, etc, had no place to mount the normal cotton picker drive. If they are like the older one row pickers, there should be a serial number plate with the model number on the left side of the operator platform and also a serial number plate on the header. Sight unseen, that's the best educated guess I can make. As to your rare question, I have never seen one in the Delta and doubt that too many were built. Hope this information helps.
