I've heard that it is possible to change the parking brake band on the 84 series tractors through the PTO inspection hole, i.e. without taking the hydraulic lift from the top of the range change part of the transmission. Is this correct, and if so, exactly how do you do it?

Hi Stuart, i have changed many, many parking brake bands on series 74,84 IH tractor and always by the top cover. You can remove the fenders, fuel tank and seat plate, in one step. Then remove the top cover and change the band. You may have to remove the PTO clutch pack to place the new band. If you think, you can fix it by the PTO access cover, try it, good luck!! Hi maybe Bernard le mecano will answer you as he has worked on many tractors of this model. I always thought the seat and fuel tank had to come off and change band through inspection hole under the seat.

Good luck
