Farmall H shift lever

Does any one have any measure ment for the part if the shift lever that is inserted into the trannie and throws the gears. I have a feeling mine is wore goes it pops out of 4th. I had heard it should be 3/4" A pic of a new onw would be great to come pare if my is shot. Also how hard and expensive is to to replace the 4th/5th slider gear. one more thing, I can not get the GM 10sI alt to fit undere the hood are their any other small alt recommendsations.

To put the alt. under the hood use the same braket as for your gen. only turn it over and weld another piece in to hold alt. use the pulley of the gen tighten belt in like manner as the gen. The strap that holds the gen will hold the alt. in place. Not much room but will work. You will need to drill and tap the end of the alt. for the pulley but will work fine.

Check the pin through the shift lever and the holes in the transmission top that they go through. There is probably some wear there. If they are worn bad you can drill the holes out to 1/2" and the hole in the 3/4" pin in the shift lever out to 1/2" and replace the pin with a cut off #8 1/2" bolt. You can buy new drive plugs at the auto parts store for .25. I fixed both my 47 and 48 this way.

My H was at 3/4 and it still hung up.I had to repalce the shift rails on 4th/5th.got me slider from I think Bates or Wengers,both have websites with the part and price,used was I think around 60 or 70 bucks,maybe more.Cant help with the alternator.
