I have noticed that some 656's have Farmall on the hood, some have International on the hood.

I went to All Makes Tractor Tips serial number listing. They show both being make at the same time.

Is there any difference in a Farmall 656 and an International 656? When did the last Farmall roll of the the line?

The Farmall's are row crop tractors and the Internationals are utility type tractors. Different overall configuration of tractors.

Harold: I think we have a couple of issues going here. As you know all 56 series tractors were labeled International with the word Farmall on the model badge, except the first two years of the 656. The other issue of course being between Farmall and Utility.

Also contrary to your belief, Farmalls probably out number standards or utilities here 10 to 1. My dad had a 1942 W4, simply because dealer couldn't get an H. Since that he first then I have had 16 new Farmalls. My 656 was a Farmall and there were many of them across PEI potato country and Ontario. I saw my first 656 Utility just 2 years ago. I suspect if you add the Canadian west that may change a bit but here in Eastern Canada Farmall was king.

Hugh,

I thought most all of Canada was standard type tractor country growing wheat and whatever except for rather small row crop areas. I should af asked instead of assuming most were standard types up there.

In Hugh's area, Canada, most tractors were International (standard type or utility type), whereas in my area, southern USA, most tractors were Farmall (row crop type).

David: The 656 was introduced in 1965 a full two years before the rest of the 56 series tractors. For the those first two years 656 had Farmall badges and an 06 type grill. Any overlap in production probably resulted from using up the parts inventory.

David,

As Hugh knows, after the other 56 series tractors came out, Farmalls still said Farmall, but it was in smaller letters on the side of the radiator shrowd over the model number rqather than on the big name. The big name on the hood said International.
