JD: If you make it by that steering box and it's contents you should be allright. Parts for that steering box will be expensive. Good used worm and cog will be scarce. If CaseIH still have them they will be expensive. I doubt if the after market guys will be much less. This has been one repair on an offset Farmall that always seem out of line. I might add the only fix I've found to be out of line.

I've owned 6 of these little tractors in the past 45 years and have to say the only time I ever felt really cheated was on steering box parts. Everything else was fair to reasonable. Sorry I wasn't much help, just thought I may make you feel better about the rest of tractor.

JD: I wondered if you might feel that way. I have found over the years end play from bearings on that worm shaft and the keyways for the half gear and steering control arm are single biggest cause for loose play in steering. Very few of these are worn enough in actual worm and teeth of the gear to create serious problems.

Another item to save you a bit of grief is rather than use gear oil when done. Put a zerk in the oil drain and pump in grease until it comes out top fill hole. In that way you know box is full of grease and any added from that point will go to gear and worm. Very few people have ever stopped these from leaking oil, for very long.
