Hello everyone.
How difficult is it to replace the sliding gear which puts the 706 in high or low range? I would assume that the tractor has to be split, but I was hoping that someone would have a better way of going about it. Looks like a big job.
Thanks.

One split but ya should remove the bottom cover under the speed the speed trans. so ya can wiggel the pto gear off the shaft. it is the long thin cover to the ft. Then ya got to pull the rockshaft cover off and both brakes and remove the bull pinions and the carrier and then the pinion . When going back together it is in your best interest to get a heavy rubber band and put it around the Ft. bearing that goes into the Speed trans as it is easy to knock a bearing out when going back together and never know it till it is TO LATE.

Tractor Vet after the split can't you pull the pilot bearing and slid the 5th gear off the shaft out the front hole, just don't remember.

Matt you will have to split the tractor, it's been a long time but I think twice because of the PTO shaft cleer to the front of the TA housing, some one correct me I am sure and that's ok.

Only gotta split once, I'm sure of that. It's been awhile, I can't remember if the shift collar slides right off after splitting, or if you need to remove the final drives, differential, and then remove the top shaft to the rear. I'm about 95% sure that the shift collar slides right off after splitting.
