I have a 1975 or 76 464 and im having trouble with the hydrolics, everytime I start the tractor the hydrolics start to squeel, and when I turn the wheel they really make a racket, also when I operate the three point the lift arms dont move and then after a minute they sloely rise about 4 inches and stop then start again. I thought that I was low on fluid but it was full, so I changed the filter and still no change so I cracked open a fitting under the seat thinking that I had air in the system it seemed to sputter air out the fitting or atleast it appered to it was foaming. I bled of till I started to run a oil pan of fluid out then I stopped still no change.I also put a clutch in this tractor last summer but didnt run it mutch since then. What is my problem and how do I fix it. If I have air in system where is the best place to bleed it off.

Hi Roe, does your parking brake still work?

One of the major problems with this series of IH tractors is that the parking brake warning lamp fails and then the tractor is driven with the parking brake on which results in the parking brake band being chewed to bits. These bits of parking brake are inside the transmission and get sucked into the hydraulic system clogging it up.
There is a splitter valve mechanism that regulates the flow of hydraulic oil to power steering, power brakes and 3 pt. The parking brake bits will clog this up and cause problems.

It is under your left foot stand by the hydraulic filter. I don't have my shop manual as I lent it to my nephew, so mabe someone else will tell you where it is and how to clean and check.

Good luck
JB

Roe,
If you replaced the filter and the fluid is full you could be sucking air around the suction tube. Not sure on the 464's but my 460 has an o-ring/gasket that goes on the inlet/suction tube of the pump. You would have to pull the pump and replace this. If you are sucking air your fluid will not be clear but will have a milky/tan color from the air that is being infused into the fluid. Hope this helps and good luck.
