Hi, I was just wondering what was the most common type of farming with a Super A/Farmall 100-140 type tractor, single or double row. I know that the Cole type planters were typically one row but I have seen two row versions on a tool bar. Which is the Super A/Farmall 100-140 best suited for and what customizations/equipment are required for either one. Thanks

I have still got the (working) two-row planter that came with my 1948 SA when it was new. The original owner only planted corn with it--including quite a few acres of custom planting every year for farmers in the area. Currently a friend is using it on his SA planting pumpkins.

I expect to return it to corn planting in the next couple of years.

By the way, does anyone know a good source for the fertilizer hoppers for this planter?

Mark

Like Hugh said it all depends on crop and part of country you are in. In my part of South most everthing is planted on 36 or 38 inch rows (at least it was when A thru 140 was being used for commercial farming) and I have never seen an A/140 planter or cultivator for more than one row.

Ramon: With tool bars you can have quite a versitile unit. Depending on plant size of crop you can use one or two units. There are a few items where you could use more than two units.

I have my tractor set on 52" wheel tread and often plant one 52" row or 2 - 26" rows. With 60" settng on wheel tread I have used three rows at 20". The crop and how much room it needs is the deciding factor.
