My 1466 has had a problem in the transmission. mainly when i use the PTO (mowing), and put the clutch in, and let it slowly come to a stop, it will jump foreward after a few feet of free wheeling. If you are going along and put the clutch in with the pto on, and hit the brakes right away, there is no noise. I unhooked the trans. brake, and didn't help. I am hoping to pull with the tractor in the farm stock class, is this anything to be worried about?

Is there a clunk at the same time the tractor lunges forward? If so it may be the begining signs that the sprag clutch is going out of your TA.

Clutch release bearing (throwout bearing) has pressure on it when the pedal is pushed and it is delivering pressure to the fingers of the pressure plate over the clutch disc. Dry, rusted, or otherwise worn balls in the ball bearing will make noise, but only while the clutch pedal is depressed.

Your leaping forward could be a condition where the balls have desinigrated and the thickness of the bearing is now thinner (intermittently as the worn balls flop around in there)which releases pressure on the springs and allows the pressure plate to contact the clutch disc and apply torque to the tranny.

Best get it fixed pronto.

You didn't describe the noise, or tell us when it happens.

Frankly, any abnormal behavior is something to be worried about. You say the tractor "will jump forward." Does it jump forward like you let the clutch out? I mean, does the engine lug down? That would indicate a clutch problem.

Otherwise, I would suspect that something is desperately worn inside the transmission, and is binding up as the tractor coasts to a stop.
