My father in law has a Super A that is still running on the 6 volt system, tractor starts and runs great but will not charge, using a meter with the tractor running I could not get over about 1/2 volt. I checked it with the regulator wires connected and disconnected, I think the generator is bad, what do you think? Thank You

Had the same problem with mine, on a tractor the same as yours. Although there are many possibilities, mine was simple, the brushes were hanging up in their brackets, thus not making contact with the armature.

Use a short clip lead and momentarily ground the field lead of the generator, be sure it's on a good ground. If it charges with the field grounded, the trouble is probably in the regulator. If it doesn't, it probably is the generator. Check for a good regulator ground too, it won't work right if the regulator isn't grounded.

You can test the generator by bypassing the regulator but I dont recomend this unless you take the time to learn how to do this without damaging anything. Better yet take the generator to a tractor store or an automotive shop that can test it for you. First check to be sure all of your connections are clean and tight AND THAT YOUR REGULATOR IS PROPERLY GROUNDED.
