I have a question and was hoping someone could help me. I was looking at purchasing a 464 International. It seems to be a good running tractor.

When the tractor sits in neutral it seems to have a bit of a rattling in the transmission. When the tractor is put in gear and/or running it does not rattle. Is this common for the 464 or is the transmission going in it.

Thanks,

Andy

kalie,

What would you buy that tractor? Is it good for hauling fiber?

Hi Andy,
I have a '47 - '48 Cub - probably made in '47 and the serial number done one the first day of '48. I am in HM - just over the hill from you. I graduated with your sister and you were with my brother. I see you have a few restored tractors -what are your plans ..... .. ?

Hi, the 454,464,574,674 all have the same rear end
and after many years they do rattle in neutral especially if it is in 4th gear. The other thing is as the Hi/Lo/Rev Neutral lever shifter mechanism wears, it no longer stays in the neutral position and creeps down to the LO position.
To stop the rattle lift the Hi/Lo/Rev lever up a little towards the Rev position and the rattle should stop.

Just be carefull jumping off these tractors with loose clothing that can catch the HI/LO/REV and pull in it to LO range. This happen to my Dad once, but luckly he was able to hit the STOP lever.

My 2 cents
JB

I have posted basically the same question about a 364. I got no response but I am assuming the rattle is common.
