What is the performance difference of a regular vs. turbo version of the 560?

Are there still kits available to convert one? How difficult is this and how expensive would it be to do it?

My father in law said they added a Turbo and juiced up the pump it was putting out 105HP.

I think I may have found a 560 diesel with a cracked head. How expensive is a replacement head for one? Are the 560s known for head problems??

Hi Robert,

Yep, turn 'er up and blow it.

The puller boys do it all the time and I've heard that their engines will sometimes last a week or two.

My 2 copper clads,

Allan

They would crack heads if ya got them hot and shut them off with out cooling them down , as for a turo kit i am not sure if one could be found anymore. But if ya did find one myself and i am a hourse power nut i would never take it above 90 hp as one post has said it will cause problems.and also it will eat head gskt.'s as one of my buddys did set at a 100 hp. After we put three on it we backed the fuel down and it ran for many years after till it sucked a sleeve.

Dad had a 560 with a M&W turbo on it when I was in my teens and it was a powerhouse. It pulled the 2 row silage cutter as good as the 806 he traded it for but with the 560 you could have it going empty in 4th TA back (no load or implement) about 2/3 throttle and shift it to 5th TA back and it would rare the front wheels up about 2 feet. It also would run so hot it burned the glow plugs off when pulling the silage cutter. Had to pull it every morning to start it. It was a 2 year old tractor then and he traded it off within a year of adding the turbo.

Chris, Also is that a bare head or complete head that just needs to go through the machine shop to have the valve ground, seats checked, etc.....

Chris,

I may need the head, we are having a guy that is going to tear down the 560 and see if its a Cracked Head or just a Gasket. I am sure its more likely a head according to the concensus on here.

How much do you want for that head and where are you located??

You'll never know if its a cracked head or blown head gasket till you pull it. A lot of those tractors where run by people who had know idea what the glow plugs where for and would give the tractor a shot of ether to start it (WORKING glow plugs are a must to start that engine - summer or winter). About a 50/50 chance of it being either.
