I have a 766 that has became a real bear to shift into hi and lo range. the reverse and the gears shift just fine. can anyone give me any pointers on adjusting the shifting linkage or if you think I need to be looking at something else. This seems to have just become a noticeable problem all at once. I have always had a little problem but now it's about every time. Thanks for any help.

If it is grinding too much, then set up the transmission brake. Also check that you don't have too much clutch free play. If it is taking alot of force to shift, and not grinding, then the linkage needs to be lubricated- there is a grease fitting up top, and use a good penetrating oil (I like MOPAR penetrating oil!!) on the rest of the linkage. If it feels loose, check the clevises and pins at the bottom, and also, like the others said, the roll pin in the shaft. It is a special heavy duty pin that is rolled to near solid. A regular roll pin will eventually break. Hope this helps, Regards, FD

I having trouble getting my 1066 in reverse or low, the culprit ended up being a broke roll pin in the tubes between the batteries. I got lucky - that was the first place I looked and I actually had a pin that would work with me. Hope you have as good luck or better than I had.

Mitch

Wayne. The first thing is always the clutch adjustment, but if it is just hi & low check the linkage from the lever to the gears, if you don,t see anything in the linkage to the range cover you will have to pull the range cover. If the roller under the cover broke that could do it.
