Value of 1944 Farmall M or H - Any Interest?

A neighbor has either a H or an M (1944) that he parked 2 years ago with a front end loader (gravity bucket) on it. It was running when he parked it (outside) but he says he's sure it will need some work to get her back running. He told me engine wear-wise it was pretty far gone so a re-build would be in order. Body looks ok but is naturally all rusty as is the rest of the tractor. His wife wants it off the property. He is willing to sell it for $900 but I am unsure if this is a good price. Could I buy it and part it out or is that a No-No? Any advice would be appreciated.

Chris

Offer him $400 and see if he bites, then if he does make sure you can haul it home to work on it.

I agree with rustyfarmall, $900 is very steep for a non-running H or M. I recently had the chance at a restored H for $ 1,200 canadian dollars. Kickin' myself now for not jumping at it! ---Jeff

$900. is pretty steep for a non running H or M. You would never get your money back out of it.

I agree, especially one that you know needs an overhaul - even if it would run. $400 - $600 range is fair to both of you.
