Ordered another manual from the local tractor guy too. But, trying to split the thing has me wondering where the hidden bolt is? Bellhousing to engine or clutch case to trans? We jiggled and tugged and lightly pryed tonight to no avail. The bottom has a gap in between the bellhousing and engine but it won't slide apart. Hmm. We didn't try too much yet due to running out of daylight. Any help for me to start in again tomorrow after work? Thanks always, Loren

Loren, there's not any hidden bolts on the bellhousing. There are two on the top of bellhousing, one of them just a little hard to get at.You will probably have to back it out a little at a time as your pulling tractor apart, due to the head hitting steering gear. Keep us informed!

Also make sure everything is blocked up securely so the front and rear halves stay aligned horizontally. If the tractor sagged at the split point when you took out the bolts, things will bind up inside and keep you from pulling the tractor apart.

This a photo of my 400 but 300 is simular. There are 2 bolts denoted by the arrow on the photo.
If removing the clutch housing there is a bolt at the bottom of the housing that you need to remove from inside. You need to remove the inspection/ drain plate from the bottom of the clutch housing to get at it.

Remove the dowls that line up the engine to the clutch housing. These have a way to bind it up when the bolts are removed.
the hidden bolt is only removed if you are removing the clutch housing from the transmision.

Loren There should be 2 1/2" screws on top of the clutch housing under the tank. If you are going split and remove the TA housing al those screws are on the sides. Don,t let the tractor sag much or it will be hard to slpit.
