Farmall H not idling down enough

My 41 H pulls a load great and cranks right up on a touch of the starter. My problem is that I can not get the engine to idle down slow. I try to adjust the idle and when it gets down it will want to cut off. The carb has been totally rebuilt. It was doing this even before I rebuilt the carb. It has had timing gears put in and I have totally tuned the tractor up. Could this be coming from wear in the governer? Governer seems to work fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Once you have convinced youself that everything else is perfect, try a new throttle shaft bushing. It cured mine.

Hi BB,

If yours is like mine (and I'm sure it is), it needs the idle "speed" adjusted at the governor and the idle "mixture" adjusted at the carb.

Work back and forth between the two and it should bring 'er right in.

The engine speed was probably tampered with in the governor or just got messed up some other way. Allan is right, just set the idle to way you think it sounds best in the governor, and get the fuel mixture right on the carb. Good luck. I'm trying to get my M running nice. You should hear it idle. Nasty little thing, but she'll pull alright. I need to rebuild the carb.
