Out of curiosity, what is the purpose for the fan and pully assembly to slide on the water pump shaft. The fan is mounted with two springs on the face which I suppose would allow the fan to slide about 1/2" forward at higher r.p.m's? This is a 1957(?) 350 utility with a 175cu/in. and power steering. Wide front.

Thanks-

Joe - The springs etc. you see in front of the fan is the water pump “driver”. It is the connection between the fan hub and the water pump shaft (which sticks out thru the center of the fan hub). The stationary nut centered between springs is the water pump shaft packing adjustment nut.

Despite it's appearance the fan does NOT move forward and back on the pump driver springs!
