you may go to www.fredericknewspost.com and search the article Tractor accident takes child's life. It appeared on Sun.5/30

The other story can be found at www.washingtonpost.com and search "After idyllic day, a tragic death" ran on 5/29.

The point of my post was to remind us all about farm safety esp. when it comes to children. P.S. thankfully the people in Utah who found Elizibeth Smart still have some FAITH IN THEIR FELLOW AMERICANS and believe what they see on milk cartons.

Ever read an owner's manual for a tractor? If not, you're just like most other people. Ever attend a course on tractor safety? If not, you're still in the majority. Back when I was a kid--when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, my kids insist--I joined a 4-H Club and took "Tractor Maintenance"...best safety course I'd ever seen. And one of the FIRST safety illustrations asked, "How many seats are on a tractor?" The answer, of course, was "ONE"...which is exactly how many people should be on a tractor at once: the operator, and NO ONE ELSE. If these parents had observed this simple rule, these needless deaths may have been avoided.

Just my opinion, and worth every cent you paid to read it.

OK, I apoligise. It seems the news accounts were too fresh to have been scanned by Google. And then again, maybe Google isn't quite as comprehensive as I thought it was.

I have posted other replies on the previous thread. One of them addresses milk cartons.

BTW, E. Smart wasn't identified from images off a milk carton. I doubt if her abduction lasted long enough to qualify for posting. Most of those pictures are five years out of date. What good is that? The Amber system is what's needed. It cuts through all the run-aways, throw-aways, and benign non-custodial parent kidnappings. It is not a joke like the milk cartons which probably earn some kind of preferential tax treatment as a charitable donation. Am I a cynic? You betcha.

My theory on Wardners Scroogelike post is that his own face was at one time posted on a milk carton and no one ever cared enough to call. He bears a grudge to this day.

I notice that I have to register and provide my email to read the archives of either paper -- since I already receive enough junk mail, I didn't. Although I feel for the parents, and without reading either article, both were the parents fault, and both were preventable. Carrying a kid on a tractor is dumb. As to the other, it is really no different than a child drowning in a pool or doing something else when no one was around. Where were the parents? I get nervous when a kid is around my lawn mower. A bush hog, perish the thought! I have no comment on Wardener's remarks, as these were not political incidents.

ckns -the mother was the operator of the bush hog. I know about the registrations that's why I didn't post it to begin with- what a pain some of the sites are becoming, wait to they start taxing us on internet use.

I agree.

Two negligent homocide raps would seem to fit here. I can't see how IH Lovers' well meaning post is going to have any effect.
