I am looking at a 130. It has a "bench" type seat on it. All the pictures I have seen on this site and others, show the 130 with a pan type seat like a Super A. Was this bench a factory option or something someone has added on later? Thanks!

Doug: The standard seat for the 130 was a pan seat as the Super A had. At that time there was an optional seat, angle iron frame with a spring cushion. It also had a small pipe frame curled up from seat about your thigh, formed an arm rest then higher to make a backrest returning to other side. There were pads on backrest as well as armrests. Does this sound like what you have?

Yes, that describes it perfectly. The backrest pad is there, but the armrest pads are missing. Thanks for the info.

On some models, the arm rest pads were an additional option. Don't know specificly about the 130.

Jim: Those arm rest pads were not very common. I've really only ever seen a couple of tractors with them. I can't remember for sure, but think I've seen them in IH literature. It may well be however those were customer custom design. I have a seat here, same seat exactly except harvest gold and it came off a Cockshutt 540. I do remember the seat being available as far back as 1953 or 54. It was obviously an aftermarket seat. Probably an option for those with tender backside. My Super A and 140 have the pan seat while my 130 has the armchair type, for want of a better word. By the time 140 came along the armchair was on most of them. In fact I've only seen a couple of 140 with pan seats. Probably different in other parts of the continant.

Since the seats came from outside supliers, it isn't unusual to see the same parts on other brands of tractors.

The status of the arm rests appears to have changed with tractor model and/or year. Brochures aren't always the most reliable source, but here is some of what I have from them:

An International 130 brochure with an options list that includes "deluxe foam rubber seat", all the illustrations show the arm rests and the text says "seat with padded back and padded arm rests".

I don't have a Farmall 130 brochure.

An early F 140 brochure options list includes "deluxe foam rubber seat" and "arm rest pads", illustrations are both ways and text says "features padded back rest and you can get padded arm rests".

A late F 140 brochure options list includes "deluxe seat with backrest", no arm rests in any illustrations and no text describing the seats. There are no illustrations with pan seat either, that were common in the earlier brochures.

I also have some Cub brochures that list the arm rests as separate options.

They sort of make it look like the arm rests went from being a standard part of the deluxe seat, to an option, to being dropped completely.

Doug,

Don't know a thing about your tractor, but the only bench seats I've ever seen were on the Cats.
