Farmall Cub has no power

Hi- We just bought a Farmall Cub that looks to be a 1952. She has sat for at least two years, but the former owner put a new battery in and it fired right up. She seems to idle good, and does not smoke, but as soon as a load is put on the engine, she dies right out. Just trying to drive or back up a very slight rise will cause it to die. Knowing nothing about these, I am probably asking a very basic common question, but where should I start to trace the problem? Thanks for any suggestions. Stu

This may be a silly question, but your not running two year old gas in it are you? You need to have fresh gas and a clean fuel system for starters. Then follow the gov. advice.

Check to see if the governor linkage is frozen or sticking. Push against the linkage with the tractor running and see if the governor tries to maintain rpm. The linkage wears and sometimes the keyways in the rockshaft where it passes in front of the engine wallows out and does not let the governor correct speed. That can be corrected with JB Weld or Locktite.

My guess would be it is starved for gasoline. Probably an obstruction in the fuel line, carburetor, sediment bowl, etc. If there is a drain plug in the carb, take it out and see if you are getting fuel flow.
