CNKS Help?

CNKS, yesterday while searching the archives, I saw that you had to put a new seal in the pump on Touch Control (A, B, C?). Anyways, you had looked for help because your shaft was worn.

I just removed mine - was leaking LOTS of oil into the engine, and guess what, my shaft is worn as well. What did you end up doing? Did you find a speedy sleeve, have it built up, or what? I never did find your solution.

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jay

I used a speedy sleeve. This is not a problem if your pump uses a seal as opposed to an o-ring. Mine has an o-ring, I had to have the shaft hole enlarged to allow use of the speedy sleeve, other wise it fit the hole too tightly. You can also have the shaft built up. If you do that, take it to a machine shop that knows what they are doing. There are procedures that can be used that avoid getting the shaft too hot so that it doesn't lose it's hardness. If it is simply brazed there is a possibility that it will get too hot, and brazing doesn't last long anyway. If the shaft breaks and jams, you will have more problems than just a leaking pump.

Thanks bunches!

If I have any wisdom (left) to pass along after I have it done, I will. If I don't, I'll let you know how I made out anyways. That's a pet peeve of mine - useful (and lots of it from here) info and no thank you's or progress reports.

**Hopefully my local parts store can get a speedy sleeve pretty quick - if not, it's not a big deal - I'll unhook the chains from the mower deck and adjust the height that way. I made a temp cover for the timing plate (for lack of a better term) using some wood.

PS - Hugh, if you're reading this - I still haven't gotten around to taking pictures of that bolt on my clutch.

Thanks!
Jay
