Unable to get Farmall M started. Had carburetor rebuilt (twice, by 2 different sources). Gas is getting to the carburetor, but gas is not filling up the carburetor, as when you open the drain plug, nothing comes out. I assume that a vacuum pressure is supposed to pull the gas through the governor to the engine. This is not happening. HELP!

There is nothing that will pull, or pump gas into the carburetor, it is strictly gravity that causes the gas to run in. The others gave some good advice. Incidently, there is not a lot of room inside the M carb for the float, if the float is tweaked even just a little bit, it will hang up on the side of the fuel bowl and will not function.

Is the float bent too wide so it cannot drop to allow fuel to flow in?
With the carburetor in your hands, hold it so the air intake is pointing up and shake it from left to right. It should make a noise if the float is free to move.
Gas should flow out of the drain in a steady stream if all is well. Does gas run out of the fuel line in a pencil size stream when disconnected at the carburetor connection?
Maybe the needle is jammed into the seat and cannot drop down; hit the side of the carb (not too hard!!) with a hammer and see what happens.

The float is closed most likely and not allowing any fuel to enter into the bowl. Also check to make sure the shut off under the tank is open and the line is not plugged. There may be a screen behind (Inside) the fitting where the fuel line enters the carb. Ensure that screen is not clogged.

If none of this works there is a clogged passage somewhere preventing fuel from getting to the carb.

Most carb kits include a new rubber-tipped needle valve for the float. This rubber tip will often stick into the seat even when the float drops away, blocking fuel flow into the bowl. Especially if she sets for awhile between running. If you find this is the problem, use a good fuel stabilizer, and rap GENTLY on the carb body when it sticks. Better yet make a new solid brass needle.
