The reason for the wider settings was to allow you to straddle a row when cultivating or planting. Many farmers used to plant every other row for certain crops. Unless you plan on running thru a lot of mud, as Rustyfarmall suggests, put them in the narrowest setting -- just my opinion.

CNKS,

Are you guys talking about a tricycle front end?

I've never heard of straddling just one row. In what kinds of crops was this done?

Thanks,

Allan

Allan, I am curious about that also, being from the midwest as I am, I am sure I am not familiar with all the various types of rowcrops which were grown in other parts of the world. I would also like to know what crops were grown that would require you to straddle just one row with a tricycle type front end.

Rusty,

Maybe these guys are talking about a wide front.

My old pee-brain doesn't always grab all the details anymore. :>)

Actually there are 4 different ways to mount them, which will give increasing amounts of clearance. It all depends on whether you have power steering, and how much mud you will be driving through. If you set them out wide, the tractor will plow mud better, but will be a real pain to steer, set in as narrow as possible, it will be easy to steer, but the wheels will ball up with mud quicker. It's up to you. Personally, I think they look best set in narrow.
