New steering gear arm for C wide front

Has anyone made a longer steering gear arm for the wide front on a C ? Would a 1/2" aluminum plate would be stiff enough / tough enough to use for a new arm ? Would I be better off using the narrow front for most row crops and the wide front for squash and tomatoes ?

I was cultivating potatoes and could not make the tractor turn sharp enough to get into the next set of rows. Turning to the left, I could skip a pair and get into the ones after. Turning to the right, I was 8 rows over. The H (with a Schwartz wide front) turns better than that.

Thanks

Greg

JD HUMM has cut and extended the steering arm 1" with cold roll steel and it not only looks almost orginal it does a great job of shortening the turning radius.

I think that you had mentioned that before (thanks), but recently there were a few posts talking about all those little arms getting broken. Rather than put more stress on it, it seemed better to just replace it. It might be time to talk to a machine shop.
