Farmall Ed,
If you decide to get this tractor, come looking for me on this board. I have been mostly a lurker or question asker for two years. However, this might be my chance to give something back. I have a 1957 350 Utility that I bought for a song in non-working condition and with the help I have gotten from folks on this board it now runs at least as well as it did the day it was built. There is nothing I get more pleasure out of than when I hear that engine bear down and the governor crack the throttle wide open as it works hards turning over the brutally hard land we have hear in my part of Alberta. If there is any help I can offer, including a copy of an original Operators Manual for the 350 Utility, let me know. After all that everyone has done for me, I owe that.

I'm not familiar with the IH 350 Utility but my son has just bought a farm and a 350 is sitting in an old barn on the property. We're presently working on the starter to get it started to see what he has and if it's worth restoring. It looks like it's been setting for quite some time. Can anyone tell me some history on the tractor, what years they were built etc.? If I get respones I'll keep you posted on our progress. Thanks

Depends a lot upon where you're located. Out in the middle of nowhere, it's not worth nearly as much as if you're near a concentration of small- to medium-acreage tracts where there's a good demand for a tractor that size. For a field-ready tractor in such areas, $3500 is a reasonable price; you need to subtract from this figure for the condition problems you describe, plus decide if this is a reasonable price to begin with for where you are located.

Of what you describe "a steering rod" is really scary. This model has always had a problem with its steering design, and replacement parts are difficult to find at this point - take a really close look at this. Fixing these things up can be expensive - TDK's estimate may be right on.

Finally, a 350 Utility is not really a "Farmall". The Farmalls were the row-crop design. (Picky, huh?) Good luck.
