My IH cub tractor with a belly mower started having a hard time lifting and lowering the belly mower. Is there a placr to check the fluid? And if it needs some fluid what type do I use?

There is a large plug high on the left side. Fluid should be up to that with the cylinder retracted. Early models used 30 weight oil, but later models used IH HYTRAN, it is also reccommended anytime one of the older ones is rebuilt, or flushed and refilled. If you don't have a soulce of HYTRAN available, check with your local farm supply store for a fluid that is MS1209 compliant. Also make sure the motor oil level in your engine isn't getting higher. If you are loosing fluid with no visible leaks the seal (or oring) on the front of the pump may be leaking, allowing touch control fluid to run into the engine.

In case he decides to use motor oil -- early models used 10W, the H/M liftalls use 30W.
