While scratching through 2 week old transplanted tobacco last evening with my Dad's Super A, I noticed a small spot where it looked like crows had tried to pull up the plants. The soil around the stems was dug out and it looked similar to the way a corn patch looks when crows decide to pay a visit. I had this problem several years ago on the same farm. After about 2 weeks and probably a couple hundred plants they gave up. Maybe they need to see the surgeon general's report on tobacco use. I was just wondering what some of you do to discourage crows from your gardens or crops other than a 12 gauge.

Get some seed corn and soak it in water until it gets soft, thread some mono fishing line on a canvas needle and leave about 6" sticking out of each side of the kernal. Lay it out in the sun t dry and then tye a knot around the kernal. Throw said corn around the field, the crows love in and get the mono sticking out of their beak and will scratch until they cut thier own throughts. can also be amusing to watch. cruel but effective.

You could mix a strong solution of a pesticide and water, soak some shell corn in it and spread it on the ground in the patch. The crows will love the corn... for a little while.

Jim, The farmer up the road from me uses a compressed air cannon which goes off every 45 seconds or so seems to help alot.
