Going to look at a 424 in a few days. Where is the hyd. filter located. Is it a filter or a screen.

All of the above and also, don't break the filter and draw it out straight of the housing. It's about 5inches long and 1.2inches thick.

the filter and tube assembly combo will run you 300$ if you blow it.

Hi, like someone else said there is only a screen on the suction line from the hydraulic reservior under the seat. If I remember correctly the suction line is the larger line. There is about a 2 inch piece of rubber hose with 2 pipe clamps on it that joins the pipe coming out of the reservior to the pipe going to the pump. Loosen the clamps and slide the rubber hose towards the front of the trator, then rotate the pipe coming from the reservior so that it will pass the other pipe and pull it out of the reservior. There should be a screen on the end of the pipe.

We would place the tractor on an incline so the front end was much higher than the rear to prevent the hydraulic oil from all running out.
Put some oil on the O ring before reinserting in the reservior.

Be sure to apply parking brake and block wheels if you put tractor on incline to clean filter.

Be careful
JB

I think the 424 just has a screen, not a filter on the hydraulic unit. I had one of these years ago, but don't recall the location. The 424 has a separate reservoir for the hydraulics. It does not use the transmission fluid for the hydaulics. The reservoir, control valves, etc are in a unit mounted under the seat on top of the transmission under the seat. The screen or filter is probably somewhere on the suction line to the pump.
