I'm looking at a 1466 International and it has a logo on the side of it that says Hydro 100. Can anyone tell me what this means? Also, it has no handle for the tourqe amplification. Was the 1466 made without this? Thank you for any response.

Aaron,

The 1466 and the Hydro 100 are two completely different tractors.

Grab the serial # to see what you are really looking at.

Since it has no T/A, it probably is a Hydro 100. 'Bout 40 to 50 horses different than a 1466.

As I recall, the Hydro 100 is something along the order of a 966 with a hydrostatic drive.

Probably 'cuz the only other tractor he saw that looked like that was a 1466, therefore he has concluded that all tractors that look like that are 1466s. I used to do that, when I was like, two.

It is possible that someone put a Hydro 100 hood on a 1466, but not likely. The easy way to tell is to look to see whether the tractor has gear shift levers (H-L-R, 1-2-3-4) on the right side, or a hydrostatic speed control.

TA was optional on these tractors as well, IIRC, but it was rare to see one without. It's also possible that the lever was removed because the TA stopped functioning, but that means the TA is shot, and pretty soon the tractor won't move at all.

I THINK I HAVE SEEN 1 OR 2 TRACTORS IN MY LIFE.BUT NOT REAL SURE. THEY WERE REAL BIG!!!!AND RED. YOU ARE HOWEVER MUCH MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE THAN I. THE TRACTOR IN QUESTION HAS "HYDRO 100" AND "1466" ON THE HOOD. IT DOES HAVE HI,LO,REV. 1,2,3,4,ON THE RIGHT. NO "TA". UP UNTIL NOW I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT A "HYDRO 100" EVEN EXISTED. THATS WHY IT REALLY THREW ME A CURVE BALL. THANKS REALLY FOR ALL FEED BACK. AARON

You've definetly got a gear drive, so it should be a 1466, but just to make sure, look for a tag on the clutch housing. There you will find the model and serial numbers. It sounds like someone smashed up the original hood and replaced it with one from a Hydro 100. The Hydro 100 replaced the 966 Hydro and the 1066 Hydro in about '73 or '74, after guys complained that the Hydro tractors didn't have the power of the gear drive tractors with the same model number, so IH just renamed it the Hydro 100. They did the same thing with the 666 Hydro, renaming it the Hydro 70.
