Here's a better picture (I hope) of the F-30 I used to own. This picture (slide) was taken in 1977 on our farm just outside Bevier Mo.. The tractor has A post production serial # and is A high clearance tractor. What it's special purpose was, has always been a mystery to me. I saw one like it at the Red power round up in Boonville Mo. and got some information from that tractors owner, a mister Darst from Moberly Mo. but did not find out why International Harvester built it.

Does it have hydraulics? Looks like it has a liftall pump from an M mounted in it.

Walt,
I think is is safe to say that when the F30's were bulit with the factory overdrive, the rear wheel size was changed down from 44's to 40's on the high clearance tractors. I have 30097 HSNW that has the 40's. The high clearance tractors were normally wide fronts used in sugarcane. Yours was probably built for the cotton fields as a special order, something that IH did frequently.

Off the top of my head I see nothing that sets it apart as a high clearance tractor. If you are referring to the rear axle, they were all made that way. I don't have my reference book in front of me but the way I remember it there were a number of true high clearance F-20's made for sugar cane fields, primarily for shipment to Australia, though I believe a few were held back for the southern United States. This may have been true for F-30's as well, though the one in your picture simply appears to be the standard configuration.

Notice the rear wheels? The hubs are thick boiler plate pressed steel. The rims are split style, matched to the hubs, "40 inch".. Weren't the cane tractors rear wheels 42 inch? Also important, this tractor has a post production serial #

Well, a post production serial number and calling it a "German" export tractor seems to be contradictory, but remotely possible. F-30 production wrapped up probably in April or May, 1939. Germany attacked Poland September 1st, and the Brits would have made shipping a tractor to Germany pretty rough starting about the 3rd.

Ok forget german export (that information was from Donald or Darrell Darst, the one from Randolph county Mo. who wrote a book or pamphlet on the F-30 ). The fact remains that the serial # is post production (acording to mr C.H. Wendel, the only source I have, at the present time for I.H.C. serial #s). What are the criteria for building a post production F-30?

Split rim, German export, post production #, good, bad or indifferent. That is NOT the picture of a special high clearance model. It is not even remotely similiar.

Good, we got that out in the open, now we know what it is NOT! If it has a post production serial # does that mean it was built off of, away from the assembly line. Also, the tractor was bought new in northern Missouri and spent all it's life there till a few years ago away from cotton country.
