On my 300 utility single valve hydraulic box there is a small funny shaped lever which rotates 90 degrees, [the valve works the fast hitch]. Could anyone tell me what its purpose is? Could it possibly be to run another hydraulic line as there are two blocked ports on the top of the valve box.

Those two other ports are the same as the two ports that are used for the fast hitch. In other words you could use either the top or bottom ports to control your fast hitch. I think that "funny" lever is for locking the control lever on the valve to make it inoperable(can't move it by mistake) when the drawbar is at the right height for an implement (baler,combine,ect.). You can add one or two more valves in front of the one you are now using. HTH or is it clear as mud?

Is there a "D" and a "S" cast into the valve body?

"D" stands for double acting. "S" stands for single acting.

Double acting will give you pressure in both directions of cylinder travel. Single acting gives you pressure in one direction and depends on weight of implement or hitch to run the other direction.

Turn the valve spool to select between "D" or "S". Most spools have flats at the end so that a wrench will fit.
