Guys, My son has a 1940 H serial# 30306 and we are trying to find out what is the correct seat assembly that goes on it? We currently have 2 different styles and neither fit. We've looked at the photos on the web site and there is only one that we could get a good look at. If anyone has a photo we would like to see it. Thanks

Some seats were optional, but likely came with
seat that is on tractors in tractor photos on this site.Look at 41 farmall H before Rod Anderson
Iowa and 42 farmall H Jason from Iowa.

I can't send you a picture but the H parts book shows the '40 seat well. Key thing to look for is the edge of the pan. It is not hemmed or folded over to secure a fabric cushion. There are two 5" slots underneath. It also has two depressions near the front edge along the sides with a couple of 3/8" holes in each depression.

Thanks. I probably should have been more clear. What does the entire seat cairage that bolts to the platform look like?

The seat frame is a piece of 2" (maybe 2.5") pipe sweep and has a U-shaped bracket that attaches to tranny lid. The sweep is formed to nearly a 90* shape. Most, if not all, had a tool box that was nothing more than another U-shaped piece of tin below the seat pan.

The bracket has a bolt and spring sticking up vertically.

This seat frame was only used for about a year and may be hard to find. A competant metal worker could reproduce it. Perhaps OEM Tractor Parts would consider making it.

The pipe seat you describe was used from 15698-up, and was used either until the end of production, or until the hydraulic seat became common. The earlier seat did not use pipe and was used on 1939 and early 1940 models thru 15967. The later seat should fit his tractor, since it has a serial of 30000+. IH did not always match the numbers correctly, or perhaps his trans cover is the "slot top" which also should have changed at 15698.

BTW, the parts book says that the hydraulic seat will fit H's from 15698 up. Don't know if it was offered in 1940 but it will retrofit. YOu shouldn't have a problem finding one of those.

Wardner, We bought the seat assembly you described, for $35. We also have determined the the platform was changed at one time. According the the bolt pattern it apppears to be a late Super platform.
Actually the place we bought it from also had another assembly like it minus the seat pan.

If indeed it's a Super H platform, you'll need to do some fabrication to make an older seat fit. The late Super H had the battery box under the seat, if I'm not mistaken.

Yep. Casting numbers will tell the tale. Both the casting date and part # should be cast somewhere on that platform. It shouldn't be hard to find the correct lid. Look for 8536 DEX.
I don't have a Super H book so I can't tell you what part # you currently have.

The last piece is the year... It should be a letter, if that helps you decipher it.
